Other tasks
There are parts of the village that would benefit from care and attention, either to improve their value for nature or to enable people to more easily walk there and enjoy them. If you would like to get involved please email avochnature@gmail.com or contact us here.
The Railway Line Path between Avoch and Fortrose requires regular work to clear drains and maintain the path surface. Trees sometimes fall across the path. The Regenerating our Green Spaces Group (ROGS) in Fortrose (supported by the Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council) are also keen to work on the Railway Line, so we shall be working jointly with them.
Avoch Primary School Grounds - the sensory garden and the vegetable growing area need maintenance. Volunteers are also needed to help with the school’s gardening club. To find out more email Sarah Byham at avoch.primary@highland.gov.uk
Keeping paths open within the village - this can include cutting back brambles, shrubs and other plants that are coming across paths, also sweeping steps to make them safer. Why not offer to “adopt” one of the paths?
Amenity Areas - there is potentially space in some areas to give more space to nature, for example by planting trees or wildflowers on the edges of some of the amenity areas. This needs planning and consultation but would benefit wildlife and make areas more attractive for people too.
Litter Picking - some people in the village collect litter on their own when they are out and about. There is also a facebook group called Black Isle Litter Pickers, if you would like to join up with others to do this.
