Avoch and Killen
Avoch (from the Scottish Gaelic: abhach – ‘mouth of the stream’) is a harbour-village located on the south-east coast of the Black Isle, on the Moray Firth. Until recently, fishing has been its mainstay. Its fisher men and women have shaped and made it what it is.
Surrounding it on the hills and plains to the north and west is land, farmed for many generations and ranging from sandy loams to heavier clay. Dominating this area, once grandly and now more quietly is the Rosehaugh Estate, through tenanted farms and its policies, now dense with mature woodland.
Killen, to the northwest, is a small farming settlement of ancient standing. Behind its open, rising fields, the more recent forestry plantations of the Mulbuie ridge.
To the south west, overlooking Avoch is Ormonde Hill and the remains of it’s ancient stronghold.
There is so much here to discover and enjoy.
