Nature Plan
Avoch and Killen Community Council has created a Nature Plan for the area to raise awareness of our natural environment and to inspire community involvement. The plan highlights practical steps that the community can take to make a positive impact.
Avoch and Killen have some great spots for enjoying nature and wildlife. But there’s still room to improve habitats and help wildlife. Like elsewhere in Scotland, many species and habitats are struggling. Climate change and the loss of nature are closely linked, but small actions by individuals and communities can make a real difference.
The plan focuses mainly on areas where local residents and the community can contribute, but it also highlights other places for enjoying nature, like Rosehaugh Estate, Ormonde Hill, the old railway line, and the grassland at Avoch Harbour. We hope to keep working with landowners in these areas. The Nature Plan also supports the Local Place Plan for the Black Isle and connects with The Highland Council’s Ecology Strategy, which responds to both climate and ecological challenges.
