Community & Support
Sharing Shed
The Avoch & Killen Sharing Shed is a community food larder, established to support local residents by providing access to non-perishable food items and other items. Situated at the Avoch Pavilion fence in the George Street car park, the shed operates with the help of volunteers from the community.
This initiative is part of a broader movement across the Black Isle, where similar Sharing Sheds and Community Larders have been set up to promote food sharing and reduce waste. Residents are encouraged to donate items they can spare and take what they need.
The shed is typically well-stocked thanks to the generosity of the community and local businesses in particular ScotMid, who run the village store.
Regular drop-offs are made by FareShare, who distribute surplus food from the food industry to sharing sheds across the Highlands.
The shed operates on a self-service basis, allowing individuals to access necessities discreetly and at their convenience. For more information please contact the Avoch & Killen Community Council by email at avochandkillencommunitycouncil@gmail.com.
Men's Shed
The Black Isle Men's Shed, established in 2018, serves as a community space for men to engage in practical projects, socialize, and share skills. The group has developed its facilities within the Avoch Community Centre and in Feddanhill Wood.
Men's Sheds offer valuable opportunities for social interaction and community involvement, contributing positively to mental and physical well-being. They provide a supportive environment where members can work on meaningful projects, fostering friendships and a sense of purpose.
